Southwell is one of six all weather tracks in Britain. The old fibresand surface was replaced in 2021 with the Tapeta surface. This was refurbished in 2024 after we were badly flooded in 2023 so we have a very high quality surface for the All-Weather Championships.
The All-Weather Championships take place at a number of ARC racecourses over six months and culminate in Finals Day where O&T compete for a share in £1 million of prize money.
As one of the premier all-weather tracks in the UK, Southwell offers a unique blend of high-energy races and competitive spirit, set against our distinctive tapeta surface. Whether you’re a seasoned racegoer or new to the track, the All-Weather Championships promise excitement for everyone.
Southwell Racecourse has the latest LED floodlight technology to light the track. This industry-leading, patented control technology is some of the most advanced lighting technology of any racecourse in Europe. Highly customised to meet the needs of Southwell, it means the course has more flexibility with its fixtures (particularly in the all- weather season).
The All-Weather Championships, especially the £1 million Finals Day at Lingfield Park on Good Friday, are now an established part of the British Racing Calendar. While the All-Weather Championships were initially the idea of Arena Racing Company (ARC), everyone at ARC is enormously grateful to the support we have received from all in British Racing in helping ensure the All-Weather Championships have proved a success from the outset.
