Southwell Golf Club’s Men had an excellent start in the Taskers Trophy, a team knockout competition for Men and Women aged over 50.
Southwell has entered two Men’s teams and in the opening round, Southwell B was drawn at home against Mapperley Golf Club. Conditions were not easy owing to high winds but the team put in some excellent performances to secure a 5-2 victory and progress to Round 2. Not to be outdone, the 7 players representing Southwell A pulled out all the stops and all won their matches to record a 7-0 victory against Erewash Valley Golf Club.
Two of our Past Lady Captains, Charlie Hall and Ann Watson represented Southwell in the Daily Mail Foursomes event. After an excellent first round 7&5 victory against Potterbank GC, Ann and Charlie faced local opposition from Newark GC in Round 2 and staged a good comeback from 2 down on the back 9 to finish all square. Unfortunately for Southwell, Ann and Charlie fell just short and lost the match on the first playoff hole.
