Southwell Racecourse will host the dramatic conclusion to the 2025 Racing League on Thursday 28 August, bringing the innovative team-based competition to a close in front of what is expected to be a large and enthusiastic crowd.
The Racing League, now a firm fixture in the summer racing calendar, spans six weekly meetings at tracks including Great Yarmouth, Wolverhampton, Chepstow, Windsor, and Newcastle. Southwell will mark the sixth and final event, with the winning region crowned on the night after 42 hotly contested races.
The Racing League pits seven regional teams—The East, The North, Ireland, London & The South, Scotland, Wales & The West, and Yorkshire—against each other in a points-based system. Each race sees ten runners, with two representatives from each team competing across a range of distances. Points are awarded from first place (25 points) down to tenth (1 point), and team managers also have the option to play a "Joker" in two races, doubling their points haul if one of their runners finishes in the top seven.
Over the course of the league, more than £2 million in prize money is up for grabs, including team and jockey bonuses. The top team will secure a £50,000 bonus, with further rewards for team jockeys and the top-performing individual rider. Defending champions Wales & The West, managed by Jamie Osborne, are among the frontrunners again this season, with strong competition from Ireland and The East.
Thursday’s finale at Southwell will feature seven races, all handicaps, run under the lights on the all-weather track. The event promises high drama as teams make their final bid for championship glory. Racegoers can also enjoy an enhanced experience beyond the track, with live music from an ABBA tribute band, family-friendly activities, food and drink zones, and opportunities to meet team members.
Children under 17 can attend for free when accompanied by an adult, and concession tickets are available at half price. General admission tickets are priced at £15, with discounts available online and for group bookings. Hospitality packages offer premium experiences, including three-course dining and trackside views.
